A user is induced to open a malicious Excel Web Query (.iqy) file. Excel retrieves external content from the URL it references; in the documented DarkHydrus case, retrieved content placed a formula in the workbook and led to a separate consent prompt before command-prompt and PowerShell execution. Opening the .iqy file or retrieving data alone does not establish code execution.
