An adversary with write access to the legacy Microsoft LAPS Client-Side Extension (CSE) directory can replace its worker DLL with a modified build. When the CSE processes a Group Policy update and rotates the local administrator password, the modified worker records the newly generated password to %SystemDrive%\laps-new-password.txt while reporting it to the computer's Active Directory object. The cited project provides x86 and x64 builds for legacy LAPS client version 6.2.0.0; it does not establish compatibility with newer or native Windows LAPS.
