Windows Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) is a client-server inter-process communication protocol for Windows applications. Adversaries may abuse DDE in supporting applications, including Office documents, to request command execution. MITRE documents Office-document delivery through phishing or hosted web content; for this variant, a user must open the document, and execution depends on application support, document content, and security configuration. DDE itself is not a standalone network service or command-line tool.
