Search application configuration files for stored credentials. For ASP.NET .NET Framework Web.config files, a documented protected-configuration section can be decrypted when its provider and key context are available; that operation changes the file and is limited to an authorized working copy. Other applications, formats, and custom providers remain application-specific. Listing or reading a file only locates candidate material; ciphertext is not a recovered credential.
