SNMP enumeration queries a network device's accessible Management Information Base (MIB) objects to collect system, interface, routing, or other configured information. This procedure probes UDP/161 with Nmap and then reads an explicitly scoped OID subtree with Net-SNMP. Returned values depend on the device's implemented MIB objects and the caller's access policy. Where an SNMP agent is Internet-routable and exposed, the requests can be made without an internal foothold; otherwise network reachability is required, and access controls or credentials may still restrict the query. SNMPv2c does not encrypt its community string or traffic; prefer SNMPv3 authPriv where supported and authorized.
