Git is a distributed version control system for tracking changes to source code. Its ls-remote command queries the refs advertised by a remote repository and their object IDs; on public code repositories, those names and IDs can support reconnaissance, while private remotes require read access and expose only advertised ref metadata. It does not enumerate repository files or download the repository's object history.
