Nmap is an open-source network scanner used for host discovery, port scanning, service and version detection, remote operating-system fingerprinting, and security auditing. Optional Nmap Scripting Engine (NSE) scripts add other discovery and vulnerability checks. Results depend on the selected probes, scan scope, and target responses; filtering or incomplete port coverage can leave hosts and services unresolved.
