OpenLDAP is an open-source LDAP directory server and client software suite, including slapd, client libraries, and utilities such as ldapsearch and ldapmodify. These utilities can query or modify directory data; the result depends on the target schema, access controls, and supplied request. The examples cover Root DSE discovery, scoped authenticated search, and submitting an LDIF change. ACL policy is target-specific: OpenLDAP uses olcAccess configuration rules, so the generic ldapmodify form is not a portable AD ACL editor or proof that an ACL changed.
