Windows PowerShell remoting uses WS-Management through WinRM to open an interactive session or run commands on a remote Windows computer. The target needs a reachable, configured WinRM listener, and the supplied account must be permitted by the target session configuration. Active Directory is a common, but not exclusive, authentication environment.
