MSBuild is Microsoft's XML-based build engine. On Windows, an MSBuild project can run tasks during a build; the built-in Exec task invokes a command through cmd.exe, allowing a project to proxy process execution through msbuild.exe. This can bypass application-control policies that allow MSBuild, but execution uses the caller's token and MSBuild does not itself provide elevation or remote lateral movement.
