Node.js is a cross-platform JavaScript runtime; its Windows executable is commonly named node.exe and the command on other platforms is node. Where the runtime is available or brought onto a host, it can execute JavaScript files or code supplied with -e. Attackers have abused the legitimate runtime to execute malicious JavaScript, but Node.js does not itself establish persistence or inherently bypass application-control policy; effects depend on the script, runtime availability, and host policy.
